The Best Forex Psychology Book Ever?

Written by Marc Walton

I recently retired as a professional trader. I now focus on teaching others to trade my funds. My team and I have coached 1000's of home based forex traders. Along with trading psychologist, Rich Friesen & a former student of mine, turned full-time trader & now a mentor: Pierre du Plessis

mysterybookIn my 6 years of mentoring and coaching and my initial 3 year struggle to become a successful fx trader, I have come to the conclusion that the biggest killer of new traders and their accounts, is not lack of a trading system but our own brains!

My fellow mentors & I are constantly preaching patience and discipline and we can shout it until we become exhausted BUT the issue facing traders, new and old, goes much deeper and it would be so much better if we could learn to retrain the brain and create new habits.

Many people rate Mark Douglas’ “Trading in The Zone” as THE best forex psychology book. I do not. Yes it is an excellent book BUT I believe that a much better one, with clearer, more practical steps to follow, especially for home based retail traders, is by Steve Ward.

If you want a step by step course of action to follow to help you combat THE biggest killer of novice & experienced traders, psychology, then Steve is the man for you.

Steve has over twenty years experience of teaching, training and coaching experience having started out working in sports and performance psychology with elite athletes and teams in over 30 different sports and with high performers in the corporate sector. He has a very easy, conversational way of conveying what may seem to be complex issues.

Top athletes, top traders & business people all have ongoing training, mentors and a support group that the average home based trader simply does not have access to. Now you have that opportunity either via Steve’s book or from the biannual, online course that he runs, as and when he has the time.

Steve runs High Performance Global Ltd a trading psychology and performance consultancy which offers specialist coaching and training services to banks, hedge funds, energy companies, proprietary trading groups, investment management funds, independent traders, brokerages, exchanges and trading education providers.

Since 2005 he has focused on working with traders, and has worked with traders, trading desks and fund managers from top 10 investment banks, hedge funds, global energy companies, asset management funds, leading proprietary trading groups and with independent traders.

He utilises a blend of performance psychology, neuroscience, behavioral finance and cognitive behavioral coaching in his work with a focus on practical techniques and strategies for enhancing performance.

Steve is the author of ‘High Performance Trading’  was the consultant trading performance coach to BBC TV’s ’Million Dollar Traders’ series, which starred Anton Kreil & co-managed a team of 45 professional proprietary traders in London and has written for many leading publications including Traders Magazine, FX Trader and Your Trading Edge.

He has also traded stock indices and FX on his own account and is a full member of the Association for Coaching, and a member of the Cass Business School Behavioural Finance Working Group and Society for Neuro-economics.

Over the next few weeks Steve will post some examples of previous webinars & podcasts that he has recorded and he will hold a webinar for us  (non salesy- pure content) in April IF there is enough interest from members. 1. Hi Marc, I am new to your site. I’ve been reading it weighing it with a lot of interest, as your story parallels mine so closely (but without the success, at this point.) I am interested in the webinar by Steve Ward; hopefully it will come to pass. Thanks, Jim Duross
